Whenever I hear somebody denounce creeds and catechisms and the teaching authority of the Church, and claim that they have "no creed but the Bible", I'm reminded of the following quote by Dion DiMucci (from an appearance of his on The Journey Home on EWTN) which seems a perfect short reply to show how that is not the case.

A friend of mine said, "How come you have a catechism. All you need is the word of God. You need the Bible. We have the Bible."

I said, "Well, that's the heart of the Catholic Church. The Catechism expresses the heart of the Catholic Church"

"Well, what do you need the Catechism for?"

I said, "Well, you go to church. Well, turn on TV, and look at any Protestant pastor. They'll read a Scripture, and they'll do a commentary for 45 minutes." I said, "You know, either you believe in that commentary...we have a Catechism that expresses, that tells you what certain things mean...

Indeed, if they truly had "no creed but the Bible", then would it not follow that at their church there were no sermons?
